Japanese Room & Gardens
Studio & Garden
Japanese Room & Rear Yard - Continuity of Space
Studio & Garden The old house has been raised about two feet and the old storage, once a half-basement, has been transformed to a studio living space open to the private backyard. The continuity of the inside and outdoor spaces gives a powerful sense of spaciousness in this modest-sized studio. The design has also transformed the rearyard into an organized outdoor room with a deck that incorporates a six-foot-diameter hot tub, a circular bench, a table and steps, which are often used for seating during parties. A trellis surrounds the tub, providing privacy. The fragrance of jasmine adds delight in the bathing experience. All of these elements are designed as integral parts of the whole.
