Headlands Center for the Arts
Building 960: Preserved Exterior
Headlands Center for the Arts, Sausalito, California This project has restored Building 960, one of the historic buildings in the site, of approximately 11,500 sq.ft. of floor area to accommodate artists' studios, spaces for installation arts, a kitchen and a new deck in the rear with a magnificent view. Historical memories are incorporated in the design. Old elevator shafts are utilized as light wells. Due to the restrictions for preservation of the historical architecture, only minor changes have been made to the exterior. Working with Jennifer Dowley, the first Executive Director with a great vision about this place, and a representative from the National Park Services, we developed the design. The majority of metal work inside are by Leonard Hunter, a sculptor and a founding Board Member. He and Mark Cavagnero, architect and a later Board Member completed the project. We have also helped the Center develop a major landscape plan around the main buildings Building 944 and 945 as well as improvement of interior of Building 945.

Mission Bed & Breakfast
Entry Porch
Mission Bed & Breakfast The old Victorian house was converted to a Bed & Breakfast. Although structurally sound, the house was deteriorated both inside and outside and needed extensive restoration work. The entry porch was remodeled with a new roof form with fan-shaped ornament at the gable. The floor was water-proofed and finished with wood deck boards. A seat was designed integral with the new guardrail. Interior was kept to its original Victorian style with new furnishing.
